The past few days we’ve been discussing some great locations from our last visit to Telluride, Colorado. Yet all this talk about snow and skiing, has us feeling a little chilled….so our thoughts have been wandering (a lot actually) to warmer climates and  our last visit to the Exuma Islands in the Grand Bahamas….Fowl Cay Resort to be exact. If you have not had a chance to visit this segment of the Bahamas…you are missin’ out on life my friends!  The water is the most amazing shades of azure & turquoise, it truly something you have to see to believe….and so are the swimming pigs…(who knew a hooven animal could swim?) Yep, just a short boat ride from Fowl Cay Resort is Big Major and its famous swimming pigs. These pigs, will come right out to your boat & beg for whatever tasty treats you may have around to share…so be careful if you’re in a dingy, they have been known to crawl right in.

“Very rarely are we completely blown away by the level of attentiveness of a locations staff…these folks are something very special.”

After you’ve experienced the swimming pigs, we highly recommend you visit Compass Cay…(say hi to Tucker for us)..and swim with the nurse sharks or kick back with a game of checkers with some of the local “yachters” that dock at the Compass Cay Marina. This great Cay is full of hiking trails,  made-to-order grilled burgers and enough visual delights to keep you entertained for hours.

Of course if swimming with some of the local marine life is bit more your speed, then you’ll want to motor over to the Nature Preserve up the channel and make sure to bring your underwater camera.

We could go on and on about the breathtaking beauty of this place…but then what would we have to look forward to as a distraction on another winter day…
