Want to be an Entrepreneur? Stop listening to the “Experts”.

So, if you happen to  have listened closely to these people, you may have noticed a common message: true business success can not be achieved unless you buy their book, download their podcast, enroll in their ongoing (aka never-ending) series of workshops, they are a life coach and therefore you must listen to them…blah blah blah.  Reality Check! If you’re now really paying attention, what they are actually saying to you is: Without my guidance you will not succeed..you NEED me to help…your “little business” will never amount to something as awesome as my ego! Okay they aren’t really saying the last one, but we’re pretty sure they would if legally they could.

Our response to all of this noise is simple, HOGWASH!! Yes you read that right..HAAAWWWWG…WAAAASH! Don’t fall for it friends and for the love of all things awesome, don’t waste your very valuable time AND money on these snake oil salesmen.

I once heard (full disclosure: I was eaves dropping) an executive coach conducting an interview with a journalist respond to the questions “In all your years of working along CEO’s who have built successful, long-lasting companies, what one trait would you say they all have in common?”…his response: “They all started out being exceptional at what they do, and eventually grew tired of doing it for someone else, building a business for someone else…making someone else wealthy…they took control of the reigns to their lives and became an Entrepreneur.”

Here’s the simple truth friends, being exceptional at something and building a business around it, that’s when you have magic!

Are you exceptional at what you do? Are you working for someone else and ready to branch out on your own? Then do one more thing before you take a leap of faith…learn as much as you can about EVERYTHING happening around you, before you jump. Have you been watching the other departments at your current job?  Do you have a clear idea what Accounting does..or Human Resources…maybe even Marketing?  All of these people have a very important role in managing a successful business, just as no man is an Island…no individual can physically execute every aspect of a successful business. Make sure you understand and respect the  importance of all the components needed to manage the day-to-day tasks of a company. In the beginning you can carry out your new-found  knowledge to handle small aspects of  these by yourself or with a shoestring team, but not knowing what you don’t know…can bring it all to a sudden end.

Keep being exceptional and when the times right…go be amazing!
